Donbass Railways (ZhDD) has said that customs control has been abrogated at the railway stations in the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics.
“The state border between the new Russian regions has acquired the status of administrative boundary, and customs control on this border is not conducted due to the coming into force of the Federal Laws “On Ratification of the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Donetsk People’s Republic on the Accession of the DPR to Russia and Establishment of a New Federal Subject,” and “On Ratification of the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Lugansk People’s Republic on the Accession of the LPR to Russia and Establishment of a New Federal Subject,” the company said.
The ZhDD said that the border crossing points only conduct passport control and inspection for banned items (such as weapons etc).
Customs control was carried out at the Krasnaya Mogila and Lantratovka stations of Lugansk Railways and at the Ilovaisk and Volnovakha stations of Donetsk Railways.
Earlier, the LPR State Customs Committee said that the customs border between the LRP and Russia turned into administrative boundary from October 5.
Rostov region governor Vasily Golubev said that Russian customs bodies had stopped customs clearance operations at the regional checkpoints.
The Lugansk People’s Republic joined Russia on September 30, 2022, when Russian President Vladimir Putin and LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik signed an agreement on the Republic’s accession to Russia. Earlier, the LPR held a referendum at which more than 98 percent of LPR residents supported reunification with Russia. *i*s
