Gas prices in new regions to match Russia’s national average by 2028
The gas price regulation system in the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republic and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions will adopt Russian norms by January 1, 2028, said the government resolution signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
“The Russian government has approved the resolution on a transition period for gas prices in the new regions,” the Lugansk People’s Republic government press service said citing the federal Cabinet.
Under the document, local authorities will set gas and gas transportation prices, as well as the price of connection to gas supply networks and trunk pipelines, according to old rules and with approval of the Federal Antimonopoly Service until the end of 2024.
The year 2025 starts a three-year transition period to integrate the new regions in Russia’s gas price regulation system.
According to the Russian government resolution, residents of the new territories are entitled, beginning from January 1, 2024, to free-of-charge gas pipe laying to the boundary of their land plots, as part of the social program for gas infrastructure development.
The Lugansk People’s Republic, Donetsk People’s Republic and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referenda.*i*v
