Lugansk People’s Republic Head Leonid Pasechnik has signed a decree on the recognition of the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Abkhazia.

“The Republic of Abkhazia is recognized as a sovereign and independent state,” the document said.

The LPR leader ordered the LPR Foreign Ministry to hold talks with Abkhazia representatives over establishing diplomatic relations and drafting a friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance treaty.

Pasechnik said in a statement that the LPR and Abkhazia “have long been linked with strong friendly ties.”

“As the Donbass people, citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia know how difficult it is to defend one’s native land from invaders and uphold truth and justice.  In this hard and tense time for the Republic, Abkhazia, following Russia, was among the first to respond to the drive of residents of our state to be free. It recognized the sovereignty and independence of the Lugansk People’s Republic,” the LPR Head said.

Abkhazia has never been indifferent to the humanitarian situation in Donbass and the safety of LPR and DPR residents, he added.

“The fighting, the operation to liberate the territory of the Republic from the criminal Kiev regime is no obstacle to stronger friendship and cooperation. We are building international relations with a firm and optimistic view of the future,” Pasecnik said.

The LPR Head expressed confidence that “every resident of the Lugansk People’s Republic supports the decision to recognize the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia.”

Earlier, Abkhazian President Aslan Bzhania signed the decrees on the recognition of the independence of the LPR and the DPR.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the sovereignty of the Lugansk People’s Republic and the Donetsk People’s Republic on February 21, 2022. He asked the Federal Assembly to support this decision and then ratify the friendship and mutual assistance treaty with the Donbass Republics. On the same day, Putin and the LPR leader signed a friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance treaty between the Russian Federation and the Lugansk People’s Republic. *i*s
