Rostov region amends its charter following Donbass accession to Russia
The legislative assembly of Russia’s Rostov region has amended the delimitation section of the regional charter due to the accession of the Donbass Republics to the Russian Federation, the regional parliament press service reported.
“The legislators amended to the Rostov Region Charter’s description of the regional boundaries after the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics joined Russia as constituent entities,” the press service said.
Rostov region parliament speaker Alexander Ischenko said that the region no longer bordered with a foreign country and that all its perimeter was adjacent to Russian regions.
“This raises the question whether the Rostov region forfeits its status as border territory. The Charter says nothing on this account. However, it is obvious that our region will have no external state border,” Ischenko said.
The speaker said that Rostov region governor Vasily Golubev had already brought forward several ideas on strengthening ties with the LPR and DPR, establishing a regional alliance and launching economic cooperation.
The parliament press service said that the Rostov region henceforth borders with the following Russian regions: the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Republic of Kalmykia, Krasnodar Territory, Stavropol Territory and Volgograd and Voronezh regions.
The Lugansk People’s Republic, Donetsk People’s Republic and Zaporozhye and Kherson regions acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022, based on the results of the unification referenda.*i*ie
