61,000 items of unexploded ordnance disarmed in LPR in 2022 - Emergencies Ministry
More than 61,000 items of unexploded ordnance have been found and rendered harmless in the Lugansk People’s Republic since the beginning of this year, the LPR Emergencies Ministry press service reported.
“<...>Nearly all territory of the Republic is a high risk zone because of the ongoing fighting, and the land is literally stuffed with unexploded projectiles, mines, bombs and grenades,” the press service said. “As many as 61,419 items of unexploded ordnance have been found and disarmed since the beginning of 2022.”
The Emergencies Ministry said that the settlement areas located near the frontline pose special danger together with the areas that have recently become regular targets of enemy artillery.
The Ministry reminded that it is prohibited to approach, touch, move or hold UXO items, hit them, disassemble, carry or roll over, make attempts to defuse them or extract from the ground, tear off or pull at the wires that extend from them, or gather UXO as scrap metal.
On October 17, the Ministry reported that six LPR residents had been killed in UXO explosions since the beginning of this year.*i*ie
