Altai sculptor restores two WWII monuments in Slavyanoserbsk district
Well-known sculptor from the Altai Territory Sergey Astrakhantsev has restored two Great Patriotic War monuments in the Slavyanoserbsk district in the Lugansk People’s Republic, the Alta Territory government press service reported.
“The sculptor was asked to restore damaged monuments in LPR,” the press service said. “ It took him six months. He used photos and his know-how; he did not have to travel to the Republic.”
The sculpture of a Red Army soldier put up in 1958 at the mass grave in Vesyolaya Gora and the monument in the Sabovka village were damaged in shelling by Ukrainian forces.
The Sabovka monument was rebuilt from scratch. “I invented my own technology: a iron compound is applied to a net stretched over wire framework. It cuts the time of producing the sculpture and its weight,” Astrakhantsev said.
The figure of the soldier eventually massed 600 kilograms.
The restored sculptures have already been brought to Lugansk and will be installed at their places in the near future.
