The project to build the first waste recycling facility in the Lugansk People’s Republic will be launched in 2024, said LPR government deputy chairperson Yelena Kostenko.

“The works will be funded under the economic development program,” the LPR government press service quoted Kostenko as saying.

The recycling plant will be built near Lugansk; it will comprise eight sections including a waste sorting factory, solid waste landfill, interim waste storage area and composting location. “After accession to Russia we’ll have to meet the requirements for Russian regions,” she said.

Russian Environmental Operator Director General Denis Butsayev earlier announced three tentative locations for waste recycling plants in the LPR with a total capacity of 700,000 tons a year.

LPR Acting Head Leonid Pasechnik said that the Republic would receive 57 garbage trucks and some 2,000 containers this year.

The Lugansk People’s Republic acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*sb
