The Maxim Gorky Lugansk Republican Universal Scientific Library (LRUNB) and the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library in St Petersburg have signed a cooperation agreement which is expected to open new opportunities for libraries in the Lugansk People’s Republic , LRUNB Deputy Director for Research and Project Activities Galina Aksyonova told the Lugansk Media Center.
“The signing ceremony took place in St Petersburg on May 24, in further evidence of integration in cultural environment of the Russian Federation,” Asyonova said adding that the document had been signed by Presidential Library Director General Yury Nosov and LRUNB Director Natalia Rastorguyeva.
The libraries will “implement joint outreach projects in the fields of history, culture, science and education, and support language culture and identity,” Aksyonova said.
Immediate plans envision joint workshops, seminars, forums and round-table discussions. The development of digital thematic content is one of the key points of the agreements. Readers will be able to tap the resources of the Presidential Library from the LRUNB Electronic Reading Hall, she said.
LPR librarians will be able to train in the fields of data processing and information resources at the Presidential Library to improve their skills and competences.
“LPR libraries plan to implement modernization plans to meet the current needs of the population. Three libraries will be modernized this years a part of the national project in the field of culture, which is supported in the LPR by the Russian Ministry of Culture, the LPR government, the LPR Ministry of Culture, Sport and Youth and the Russian State Library,” Aksyonova said.
The Lugansk People’s Republic acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*v
