Lugansk People’s Republic air defence has downed a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) launched to adjust artillery fire, the LPR People’s Militia press service officer Anton Mikuzhis said.
“Ukrainian armed forces attempted to launch a shelling of our territory to provoke retaliatory fire. The 30th brigade used a quadcopter-type UAV to adjust the fire and record the attack on video. Thanks to the skills of LPR defenders, who constantly monitor the airspace, the UAV has been brought down and fell between the positions."
The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014. Conflict settlement relies on the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements, signed on February 12, 2015 in the Belarussian capital by the Contact Group members and coordinated by the Normandy Four heads of states (Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine). The UN Security Council approved the document by Resolution No 2202 of February 17, 2015 and called upon the parties to ensure its implementation.
UAV employment over Donbass is banned by the Additional Measures to Strengthen Ceasefire. Nevertheless, Ukrainian forces often use unmanned aerial vehicles for reconnaissance and to deliver strikes on LPR townships.
