The Lugansk People’s Republic Supreme Court has given a 15-year prison term to a Ukrainian serviceman who fired at Vrubovka settlement civilians in June 2022, the Russian Investigative Committee (SK) reported.
“The LPR Supreme court said that the evidence gathered by the SK was sufficient for passing a guilty verdict on 10th Mountain Assault Battalion 3rd Company commander Vladimir Kazyuk,” the report said.
Tank squadron commander Kazyuk had been charged cruel treatment of civilians, use of banned means and methods of warfare and malicious damage to property.
In early June 2022, he fired 25 high explosive fragmentation rounds at Vrubovka causing multiple damage to single-family homes. His unit was at in a strip of wood some seven kilometers from the settlement.
According to one of the victims, Ukrainian forces who seized the outskirts of the village did not allow the remaining 100 residents to leave for Russia-controlled territory.
“Ukrainian forces regularly shelled Vrubovka from their positions in the outskirts of the village. When local residents complained, Ukrainian servicemen said that according to their documents the village was not populated, so they could do what they pleased,” the Investigative Committee said.
