Lugansk People’s Republic militia engineers have found and destroyed the warhead of the Tochka-U missile that Kiev gunmen fired at Krasny Luch last month, the LPR Emergencies Ministry press service reported.
“Krasny Luch authorities asked the LPR Emergencies Ministry to clear the Shterovskoye water reservoir of mines,” the press service said. “A search found a Tochka-U warhead 150 meters from the shore at a depth of two meters.”
LPR engineers tied strong ropes and a wire rope around the warhead and used a rowboat to tow it to the shore. Having made sure that the warhead was at a safe distance, the engineers destroyed it underwater, the Ministry said adding that the missile posed danger to people’s lives, had a large mass and was in dangerous proximity to transmission lines.
Kiev forces fired a Tochka-U missile at Krasny Luch in the evening of June 16.
The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014. The peace talks participants have announced ceasefire more than 20 times since the autumn of 2014. Kiev forces regularly violated the truce opening fire with large caliber artillery, mortars and tank guns which were to have been withdrawn from the contact line under the accords.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression. Earlier, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance. On July 3, the LPR militia and Russian armed forces fully liberated the LPR territory from Ukrainian armed formations.*i*s
