LUGANSK, May 10 (Lugansk Media Centre) – A military parade marking the 76th anniversary of the Victory Day took place on Teatralnaya Square in central Lugansk on May 9.
Two thousand service members of the LPR People's Militia and law enforcement agencies marched along the streets of Lugansk, together with one hundred military equipment pieces.
The total of 23 parade crews took part in the parade, of those 13 were crews of the People's Militia, other were of the Emergency Ministry, police, Cossack Cadet Corps, Yunarnia youth patriotic movement, and conscripts of the People's Militia military courses.
The legendary WWII-era T-34 tank rolled at the head of the equipment column, to return to his permanent location, to the plinth outside Lugansk at the Lugansk-Krasnodon highway, afterwards.
The T-34 was followed by T-64, T-72 tanks, BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, BTR-80 armored personnel carriers, MT-12 Rapira 100 mm anti-tank guns, Gvozdika 152 mm self-propelled artillery systems, Msta-B 2A65 122 mm howitzers, D-30 122 mm howitzers, BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launch systems, 9K35 Strela-10 anti-aircraft missile systems, Osa anti-aircraft missile systems, drones, PTS-2 amphibious transport, and special equipment of LPR police, such as armored Hummers.
The Victory Day is celebrated on May 9 in Russia and post-Soviet countries, while Europeans mark it on May 8, due to the fact that the signing of the German Instrument of Surrender took place late on May 8 in Karlshorst, Berlin, when it was already May 9 in Moscow.
The V-Day has become one of the most important days on the year calendar in Russia and Post-Soviet countries, as the WWII, the deadliest military conflict in human history, claimed at least 26.6 million lives of Soviet warriors and civilians, and a total of 70-85 million people perished in its inferno.
Many Western researchers admit that the Red Army was the main engine of Nazism's destruction and played the major role in curbing Hitler's initiative to depopulate whole swaths of Europe as a site for German Lebensraum.
