Lugansk People’s Republic State Security Ministry (MGB) officers have prevented an act of terror in Lugansk at the venue of a requiem rally for those who had performed their duties outside the Fatherland, the MGB press service reported.
“At 6:30 on February 15, an MGB duty officer received a call from a Lugansk resident who said he had found an object resembling an explosive device in a litter bin on People’s Friendship Square,” the report said.
When checking the place, MGB officers found and rendered harmless a home-made bomb consisting of a mobile phone, electrical dedonator, two TNT blocks massing 400 grams and shrapnel. The shrapnel was made of 5 to 20 centimeter long pieces of reinforced steel.
“The LPR State Security Ministry believes that the bomb had to be set off during the rally to remember the fighters performed their duty outside the Fatherland, which was scheduled for 10:00 on February 15,” the MGB said.
“The bomb planting method and bomb components suggest possible involvement of Ukrainian Defence Ministry sabotage and reconnaissance teams and Ukrainian secret services that aim to destabilize the socio-political situation in the LPR by setting off the bomb during a rally in central Lugansk, which could have caused civilian casualties,” the MGB said. *i*s
