The Russian Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities said that cost estimates are being prepared for phased rebuilding of the Lugansk airport.
“The Lugansk airport will be rebuilt by stages, in accordance with the economic development program for the new regions approved by the Russian government,” the Ministry’s press service told the Lugansk Media Center.

Ukrainian troops seized the airport in May 2014 and turned it into a stronghold to prepare an offensive against Lugansk. By September, the airport and adjacent areas had been retaken by Lugansk People’s Republic militia units which decreased Kiev forces’ opportunities to shell the LPR capital. The airport building and other facilities were ruined in the fighting.*
