New regions’ transition to all-Russia retirement age reduced to 2027
The period of transition to Russia’s pensionable age in the new regions has been reduced to the year 2027, TASS reported citing chairman of the State Duma (parliament) Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans’ Affairs Yaroslav Nilov.
“The term of transition of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and Kherson and Zaporozhye regions to the all-Russia retirement age has been reduced from the end of 2032 to December 31, 2027,” the report said.
Earlier, the Federation Council upper house of the Russian parliament approved two laws on the specifics of social benefits in the new regions.
“Indeed, 2032 was in the text of the 1st reading of the law but by the 2nd reading, it had been changed (to the end of 2027 - eds TASS)," Nilov said.
The retirement age was 60 years for men and 55 for women in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republic before their accession to Russia.
The law which came into force in Russia on January 1, 2019, set the retirement age at 65 for men and 60 for women. The period of gradual transition to the new retirement age will run until 2028.
In 2022, pensions were granted to men born in the second half of 1960 and women born in the second half of 1965. Men born in 1961 (63 years of age) and women born in 1966 (58 years of age) will be entitled to pensions in 2024. In 2026, the pensionable age will be 59 years for women and 64 years for men, while in 2028 the retirement age will finally reach 60 and 65 for women and men, respectively.
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that pensions in the Lugansk People’s Republic and the other new regions would be granted according to Russian regulations beginning from March 1.
The Lugansk People’s Republic, Donetsk People’s Republic and Zaporozhye and Kherson regions acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referenda.*i*v
