Lugansk’s St Luke State Medical University (LGMU) has opened a rehabilitation center for demobilized special military operation (SVO) participants.
The rehabilitation center project which won a presidential grant was implemented jointly with the LPR Healthcare and Youth Policy Ministries under the aegis of the regional Public Chamber.
The opening ceremony, followed by the rehabilitation program presentation was attended by LGMU Rector Alexander Torba, LPR Youth Policy Minister Yulia Velichko, Public Chamber Chairman Alexey Karyakin, Head of the Union of Donbass Women Natalia Priymak, rehabilitation project manager, LGMU professor Irina Kovalyova, SVO veterans and demobilized students.Rehabilitation will be provided under individual programs. Outpatient treatment for chronic pain syndrome includes physiotherapy and remedial exercises. The center has been provided with modern equipment including ultrasound machines, massaging table, running machine etc. The facility is expected to prevent the aftereffects of SVO fighters’ pain syndrome. “We remember the terms, even the diagnoses such as Afghan Syndrome and Chechen Syndrome,” Public Chamber Chairman Alexey Karyakin said. “Regregettably, we're going to encounter Donbass Syndrome. The establishment of the rehabilitation center is one of the steps aimed at overcoming this syndrome.”

The peace talks failed to reach tangible results due to Kiev’s position to settle the conflict by force. President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation on February 24, 2022 to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression. Prior to that, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance.*i
