Russia’s Investigative Committee (SK) has held an award-giving ceremony for young heroes of the Fatherland, the SK press service reported.   The event timed with Heroes of the Fatherland Day was attended by senior SK officials from Russian regions and relatives of killed young heroes and SK personnel who died in the line of duty.   “Today, Russia is fulfilling important tasks of the special military operation, and SK personnel are actually on the frontline investigating Kiev regime crimes,” SK chairman Alexander Bastrykin said addressing the participants. “It is gratifying to have such courageous children and adolescents in our ranks. Your heroic deeds give a good start to your life.”   The awardees include Donbass children who behaved courageously amid hostilities.    “The SK Department for the Rostov region decorated 9th grade student of Lugansk School No 52 Ilya Semyonov with the “Valor and Bravery” medal for saving his wounded classmate. The medals for high civic mindedness were awarded for active participation in volunteer projects to the following students of Lugansk City education centers: Viktoria Ischenko, Sofia Kononenko, Tatyana Sotnikova, Alexandra Verich, Maria Vasilyeva and Boris Lisitsyin,” the SK said.   The SK chairman talked with the awardees and inquired about their life. The adolescents were offered to consider enrolling in SK education institutes. Bastrykin urged regional SK officials to support children’s families, pay attention to their needs and take care of those living in the DPR and LPR.   “They are our citizens now. We must not just hand in medals, but also help them resolve all problems,” Bastrykin said.   Russia marks Heroes of the Fatherland Day on December 9. On that day in 1769, Russian Empress Catherine II established the Order of Saint George the Trophy Bearer, an award for brave warriors.   On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression. Prior to that, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance. The LPR militia and Russian armed forces fully liberated the LPR territory from Ukrainian armed formations on July 3.   The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014.  The peace talks that began soon thereafter failed to reach tangible results due to Kiev’s position to settle the conflict by force.   The Lugansk People’s Republic became a part of Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*v
