Seven servicemen of a Ukrainian army brigade that operates in the “Joint Forces Operation” zone were killed in explosions of Ukrainian mines in July, spokesman for the Lugansk People’s Republic militia Ivan Filiponenko said at a press briefing.
Filiponenko said that the "JFO" command was concerned over a sharp increase in non-combat losses among servicemen who got killed in explosions in Ukrainian minefields. The problem was particularly acute in 79th Brigade.
"In July alone, seven servicemen died of mine blast traumas and another 15 were wounded,” the LPR militia spokesman said.
The command of the operations and tactical group “North” ordered 79th Brigade commander Colonel Alexander Lutsenko to check the maps of the minefields in the area, which have not been updated since 2017.
The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014. Conflict settlement relies on the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements, signed on February 12, 2015 in the Belarussian capital by the Contact Group members and coordinated by the Normandy Four heads of states (Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine). The document provides for ceasefire and withdrawal of heavy weapons from the contact line. *i*s
