The river Seversky Donets in the Lugansk People’s Republic requires an integrated survey ahead of  reclamation but mine-studded riverbanks thwart environmental efforts, the regional department of the Federal Agency for Water Resources told the Lugansk Media Center.

The river basin which was the contact line for a long time has to be cleared of mines, however, fighting is ongoing at the place where the river flows into the LPR, it said.

The key problems of the Seversky Donets are: negative impact of numerous ponds and water reservoirs on river discharge amid low rainfall, raw wastewater and intensive water withdrawal.

LPR participants in the all-Russia contest of managers suggested cleaning the Seversky Donets with EM mud balls which are a mixture of clay, molasses and microorganisms.

The Seversky Donets is a large river of the LPR which also flows through the Donetsk People's Republic and the Belgorod and Rostov regions.*i*sb
