The Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications under the State Duma lower house of the Russian parliament will meet early next year to discuss the integration of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions into Russian IT space, committee chairman Alexander Khinshtein said. “We’re planning to hold a meeting with all departments concerned in the beginning of 2023,” Russia’s TASS news agency quoted Khinshtein as saying. “There are many matters to attend to; the program to eliminate digital inequality has to cover the new regions.” The population of the new Russian regions should enjoy the same opportunities and rights as the residents of the whole country, including stable access to the Internet and government and postal services, he added. The Russian parliament passed 18 laws on integrating the new regions into the Russians legal environment during the autumn session 2022. The Lugansk People’s Republic, Donetsk People’s Republic and Zaporozhye and Kherson regions acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022, based on the results of the unification referenda.*i*v
