Ukrainian forces shell Russian positions in Belogorovka area three times - Defense Ministry
Kiev forces have shelled Russian servicemen’s positions in the Belogorovka settlement area in the Popasnaya district three times despite ceasefire observance by the Russian army, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to introduce a ceasefire along the whole contact line in Ukraine from 12:00 on January 6 until 24:00, January 7. Earlier, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia urged a truce “so that the orthodox believers can attend church services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.”
The Defense Ministry confirmed that in accordance with the Russian president’s order and Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu’s instructions, “a ceasefire was announced in the joint group of Russian forces along the whole contact line in the special military operation zone from 12:00, January 6 to 24:00, January 7.”
"Despite the observance of the ceasefire by the group of Russian forces from 12:00 on January 6, the Kiev regime continued to shell settlements and Russian troops positions.<...>three artillery attacks were launched on the Belogorovka settlement area in the Lugansk People’s Republic,” the Ministry said.
The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014. The peace talks that began soon thereafter failed to reach tangible results due to Kiev’s position to settle the conflict by force.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression. Prior to that, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance.
The Lugansk People’s Republic acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*ie
