A court has sentenced a Ukrainian serviceman to 15 years in a maximum security prison for killing a civilian in the town of Popasnaya last spring, the press service of the Russian Investigative Committee reported.
“On May 5, 2022, Artyom Bublik went from the railway depot to the center of Popasnaya,” the SK press service said. “On his way, he saw a single-family home, approached it and saw a woman on the porch. He saw a figure inside as he looked through a window, and, standing at a distance of some ten meters, fired at least six shots from his AK-74 rifle at the window to intimidate the civilians in the house. The man at whom he had shot died of his wounds.”
Bublik was found guilty of murder and use of banned methods and means of warfare.
The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014. The peace talks that began soon thereafter failed to reach tangible results due to Kiev’s position to settle the conflict by force.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression on February 24, 2022. Prior to that, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance.
