The “United Russia” (ER) political party has nominated Lugansk People’s Republic Acting Head Leonid Pasechnik for the post of Head of the Republic, said Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council upper house of the Russian parliament, ER General Council Secretary Andrey Turchak.
“The party has decided on the candidates for the top posts of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions,” Turchak said on Telegram. “They are DPR Acting Head Denis Pushilin, LPR Acting Head Leonid Pasechnik, Zaporozhye region Acting Governor Yevgeny Balitsky, and Kherson region Acting Governor Vladimir Saldo.
Pushilin and Pasechnik have successfully led the People’s Republics for five years and have a large experience in governing and developing Donbass amid ongoing hostilities, he said.
Balitsky and Saldo have been at their posts since the first day of the special military operation. “Together, we worked on relief supplies, evacuation, rebuilding of ruined facilities and prepared and carried out the referendum; they, too, have enough experience and enjoy people’s respect," he said.
Earlier, Pasechnik said that he was ready to continue to represent LPR interests if Russian President Vladimir Putin and the People’s Council put their trust in him.
Under the law, the LPR head is elected by the People’s Council (parliament) which will be formed after the September elections. The candidacy for regional leader is proposed by the Russian president. *i*ie
