Lugansk People’s Republic Energy and Coal Industry Minister Denis Yarosh and Lugansk Thermal Power Plant (LuTES) Director Alexander Mikhailov have signed a LuTES modernization agreement with a contractor.   “The 2.1-billion-ruble project aims to increase the number of power generating units and gross generation,” the Ministry said in a press release.    Mikhailov said that the launching of additional power generating units would enhance the reliability of the LPR energy system during the winter peak load period and help create new jobs.   ***   In May 2022, LPR Acting Head Leonid Pasechnik presented decorations to the Russian engineers who had demined LuTES and the specialists who had helped to launch the facility.   LuTES which is located in Schastye, currently generates 1.360 megawatt versus 810 MW in 2012. As of 2017, it only generated 90 MW.   Pasechnik said that the launch of LuTES would allow the Alchevsk Metallurgical Works and Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant to resume operation in full capacity. Ukrainian nationalistic battalion Aidar gunmen turned the thermal power plant premises into a stronghold with a network of fire positions and bunkers in which Javelin anti-tank missile systems were found.   ***   The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014.  The peace talks failed to reach tangible results due to Kiev’s position to settle the conflict by force.   The Lugansk People’s Republic acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum. *i*ie
