The Lugansk People’s Republic Supreme Court has sentenced a resident of Alchevsk to 13.5 years in prison for high treason and public calls for extremism, the LPR Prosecutor General’s Office press service reported.
The defendant, an agent of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) since 1998, gathered information on LPR law-enforcement personnel, locations of military facilities and socio-political conditions in Alchevsk.
On top of that, the man administered the nationalistic group Ukrainian Onslaught on the Vkontakte social media platform. In April-May 2019, the SBU tasked him with posting pro-Ukrainian and neo-fascist comments and calls for sabotage and arsons against the LPR civilian population and constitutional order.
“The defendant pleaded guilty to all charges and repented. During a court hearing, he insisted that he had been motivated by political and ideological hatred.
The LPR Supreme Court handed down a guilty verdict to the defendant sentencing him to 13 years and six months in prison, the PGO said.
Earlier, the LPR Supreme Court sentenced a Krasnodon district resident recruited by the SBU to six years imprisonment for high treason. *i*s
