Residents of new Russian regions replace 34,000 driving licenses over month
Residents of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions have replaced 34,000 driving licenses with Russian documents over a month, Russia’s TASS news agency reported citing Interior Ministry spokeswoman Irina Volk.
The Russian government resolution on vehicle registration and issue of driving licenses to residents of the new regions came into force last December.
“Over the first month of the operation of the resolution, traffic police units provided more than 55,000 services across the country to residents of the new Russian regions, including 34,000 services to replace driving licenses and 21,000 to register vehicles,” Volk said.
Most of the services were provided in the territory of the new regions where 21 traffic police registration and examination departments were launched, she said.
“More than 50,000 services were provided in the new regions: 17,000 in the Donetsk People’s Republic, 10,000 in the Lugansk People’s Republic, 16,000 in the Zaporozhye region and more than 7,000 in the Kherson region,” Volk said.
The government resolution provides for the above services to be rendered in other regional centers of Russia.
“Regional traffic police departments provided 5,000 services to residents of the new regions, including 4,000 services to replace driving license and 1,000 to register vehicles,” the spokeswoman said.
LPR driving licenses, vehicle registration cards and plates have to be replaced with Russian driver’s documents and plates according to government resolution No 2216 of December 2, 2022. The residents with LPR or Ukrainian vehicle registration have to re-register by January 1, 2026. The LPR Interior Ministry reported on December 21, 2022 that the first residents had already received Russian driver’s licenses and vehicle registration plates.
To optimize work, LPR road police departments arranged the booking of appointments starting January 9.
The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs assigned regional code 81 to license plates of the vehicles registered in the Lugansk People’s Republic.
The Lugansk People’s Republic acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*v
