The upgraded “Shmel” mine-clearing robot will be sent to new Russian regions after the Army 2023 international forum, Rostec state corporation First Deputy Director Vladimir Artyakov told reporters.
"The MGR-4 “Shmel” humanitarian demining vehicle will be tested in real life conditions,” Artyakov said.
“Shmel was upgraded after trials at a Russian Emergency Situations Ministry test field. It has neither operator cabin nor manual controls. The idea is to carry out mine clearance operations without human participation, Rostec’s High Precision Systems Holding told the Lugansk Media Center.
“Shmel” is remotely controlled with the Prometheus hardware and software suite designed by the Signal All-Russian Research Institute. It is intended for clearing territory of anti-personnel mines and video monitoring of the environment with a radio control range of up to 1,000 meters, the Holding said.
The robot was first presented at the Integrated Safety international exhibition in May 2023.
