The Republic of Tatarstan has allocated almost 2.5 billion rubles to support the special military operation (SVO) and Lisichansk, the town it sponsors in the Lugansk People’s Republic, Tatarstan Head Rustam Minnikhanov said in the course of a working meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I’d like to say that the topic of the special military operation is important to all of us, and want to report that we are actively working on this track to support the SVO; we’ve allocated nearly 2.5 billion (rubles) including to the town of Lisichansk which we sponsor,” the Kremlin website quoted Minnikhanov as saying.
“A considerable portion of some 2,000 tons of relief supplies were sent to Lisichansk for which we’re responsible,” he said. “We fully know what we must do in Lisichansk once we have this opportunity though we’ve already begun to work on several facilities.”
On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression. Prior to that, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance. The LPR militia and Russian armed forces fully liberated the LPR territory from Ukrainian armed formations on July 3.
The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014. The peace talks that began soon thereafter failed to reach tangible results due to Kiev’s position to settle the conflict by force.
